Hi Everyone!

I haven't been blogging much this year - Reason being I found a job, fell in love with this beautiful city called Hong Kong, and worked diligently in the areas of conserving the environment. After five good years of living abroad, I am finally making a move home, back to Malaysia. 

​

This time around, I will be home, spending time, learning new expertise, and most importantly connecting with people. Right now it is eight months into 2019. I can't wait to explore more of South East Asia in the coming few months. Stay tuned for more exciting news to come!

2017 has been a rather quiet, yet progressive year. Donated 9 inches of my hair, and started a career as an assistant analyst/project consultant. Some may seem rather surprised knowing that I had left flying to work at an engineering consulting firm in Hong Kong. 

After I started my life in an 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM desk job; it was challenging to stay awake during work in the very beginning, fortunately, free coffee perks did a pretty good job helping me prevail, and keeping me going. 

In a glimpse of an eye, occupied; believing that I'm doing a great job handling suppliers, conducting trainings, doing analytical work - I have discovered of my addiction to details and a genuine joy to speak to people. With the support of family, I must also emphasize that books and classes kept me occupied; It was also with the help of newly acquainted expats in Hong Kong, have enlightened me and opened me to the interesting world of board games and 'trivia nights'.

It was not easy working away from home, every other month, I was always looking forward to trips back to Malaysia. I was bored, and in 2017, I got certified for Management for Social Enterprise; took an   IELTS Academic exam and scored a 7.5 band (while being in Hong Kong). 

I enjoyed what I do, consulting and analytical work is deeply intriguing. In the coming 2 years; I will be staying in Hong Kong until the end of 2018. Friends that I have not met in ages, I do hope that someday, I will be able to meet you soon in this country I call my second home. :)

7/10/16 36 Days, 6 States, 10 cities in Malaysia. 
A fellow backpacker said to me, you should be proud of what you have done so far.
It is not wrong to not know what you want to do. Atleast you are 25, you got here and you planned everything on your own. 
Who cares if you can't find a career at 26? Get a few jobs and eventually transition to what you like doing. Best pep talk, at least my ears, heart and mind can digest it.

So, how would you like your 2016 to be if you could live through it again?

Mine has been interesting thus far. :) I've had the opportunity to experience so many different things. As I reflect, I'd like to take this opportunity to show gratitude to each and everyone that has grown with me or simultaneous helped me grow.

I changed four jobs. I ticked off a month long solo backpacking journey in my home country. I met new friends and shared many great stories with people. I spent a good deal of time getting to know my grandparents. I learned how to cook. I learned to love my family more. And I learned to be persistent when it comes to chasing dreams.

Last but not least, this is something I want to remember. Both my grandmas are my biggest pillars of support. I'm always glad that they always enjoy listening to my stories and support me 200% about my decisions. Regardless how stupid or foolish my decisions may be. These two important figures are the important people that embraces everything about me and yet still be proud of me. They are my greatest gift second to my papa and mama. I am forever grateful and cheers to another great year.

2/2/16 I have been planning for this idea for the past two months.

At 2100hrs today, we left the house with a 6 bags filled with dried food, water, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, clean towels and t-shirt in a bag. 
 

We spent the initial 45mins driving around Penang town area, passing through the famous bicycle and motorcycle mural twice without being able to spot any homeless looking people. Soon enough we saw an uncle sitting by the the bench near Kuan Im Teng, eating. I was really excited, but as soon as I parked the car, the main street was rather dark. I got really scared, looking at the uncle realizing that there was a rather young stranger standing at the side. I stood by my father to wait for the young stranger to walk away and I built up my courage to approach the uncle and pass him the bag of food and water.

Determined, we saw another man sitting by a bus stand near the Penang High Court with his walking stick. We drove pass him twice and realized he was still sitting there. So I made a huge u-turn, parked on the side and went over to pass the uncle the package. The moment I passed him the bag, I said "Uncle, inside there's biscuits and water and this is for you." I saw the uncle's eyes welling, but I was not too sure what it was. Before I could react, he reached out his hand and said "Thank you", "Happy New Year, and See you Tomorrow!". I was in awe and replied "You're welcome Uncle, Happy New Year" and I shook his hand and left.

We then continued to drive in rounds. I asked my dad "What if the person rejects? What if he is not?" At some point, I was really amazed at the fact that it was so difficult to find homeless people living on the streets in Penang.

We managed to give out the rest of the bags. Some of them were already sleeping so I left the bag on the side. I am very thankful that my dad was there to accompany me to give out the bags. But one thing that I was rather disappointed that was I was discouraged to not do it again. Although it wasn't much, I am grateful that after working for a year I am able to contribute to something with my own effort. Perhaps my methods might not be the most appropriate. I hope I am able to help in some ways.

Today when buying food at KLIA, I bumped into a Korean uncle paying for him and his child's meal. So i offered to pay together, so that he could have a discounted meal. 

I spoke a little bit of Korean learnt from my unglam backpacking and kpop sensation. That guy was so excited and started speaking to me in Korean. And he offered to pay for my meal.
I'm really lucky to bump into such a nice family :D

Some people tell me, being in this industry, if you take this job too seriously. You will lose.

Sometimes doing something is not always about losing or winning.

If you take your tasks seriously, I think it simply shows that you have a beautiful and admirable character.

Being patient, being hardworking, being nice to people, being sincere and being supportive are really good qualities.

At the end of the day, what people say will sometimes make me feel like I don't gain much. Some will say things like, "You won't get a payraise for the amount of work you do". Or "Don't need to treat them so nice, they won't appreciate".

It makes me feel so sad, because often I wonder, what is the meaning behind this job if you're only doing routined task. I believe that if you don't like to be ill treated, be the person that treats people well. The world will then be a much beautiful place.

Many people will tell me, you don't need to work so hard. Just work smart. Perhaps I am foolish to believe that people will appreciate what I do for them. The only fraction of happiness and satisfaction I savor from this job is when people tell me that they felt that they were being well taken care of. And my presence actually makes a difference.

I still believe, that even the smallest things you do will actually make a difference. I too wish that the next time I am in difficult situation, someone will lend a hand. If I fall someone will hold me. If I am sick, someone will be there to care for me. I don't expect that everyone will appreciate the bit of kidness. But nowadays be thankful if you see someone being nice to you. Because it is not common nor part of their responsibility to be nice to you.

I am just a nobody, merely sharing about a story of a person working in a confined area that constantly shifts about airspaces from one continent to another.

Lastly, spread kindness and believe in good values. Because I believe that kindness is contagious. And if you uphold good values, I would want to be your friend. And if you're not the smartest kid yet, I would want to employ you as an employee. Because having you in my team, is like a hidden gem destined to shine.

Today a young teen came and hug me during disembarkation when we arrive into KUL.

Apparently a colleague of mine was being really friendly to her during the flight. It was a really timely hug. Though I was still pretty shocked, I think perhaps it reminded me of the warmth from my motherland.

Once in a while, I guess you'll let 'routine' consume the interest in your job. Thank you for reminding me that our job is not mere hello and goodbye, but more of creating an element of personal touch between us and the people around us. 
How nice if there were more people that appreciate what we do. Well ofcourse it's not a must, but it's a good thought to ponder on. Certainly some good pointers for me to remember and to bring forward in life smile emoticon
