ZÜRICH THROUGH MY FATHER'S EYES

This time we spend a short stay in Zurich, Switzerland. Lucky enough this time I wasn't travelling on my own, guess what - I had my dad to come along.

So we started off early at the Oerlikon Farmers Market. They have loads of fruits all very fresh and juicy. Oh well atleast they look juicy.

When it comes to food in Switzerland, a healthy choice always includes some cheese and a baguette.

IMG_6323.jpg

After having our light bruch, we took a stroll down from Banhofstrasse to Zurich Main Station - Banhofquai

IMG_6333.jpg
IMG_6340.jpg

A view across Limmatquai. I was on very very low battery, physically too tired to be in any photos. So just enjoy the view and my dad photobombing everything else.

IMG_6345.jpg

A very hidden tram station known as Polybahn next to the Central Station, we didn't have any idea where it was heading towards so we decided to just be touristy and take a tram selfie.

And a slow walk through the small alleys of Niederdorf to Neumarkt. The city is amazing. And in Switzerland I learnt that they are a small country mainly famous for 3 main things:

1. Swiss Chocolate

Well I was told that swiss cows are breed in the alps, fed with loads of water and meadows! And they sometimes linger in the alps on their own for 3 months. That explains why they wear bells so that the shepards know where to find them. Therefore the swiss cows produce such high quality milk. Not to mention other than buying chocolates. Cheese, yes cheese is amazeballs too. You can have ravioli with blue cheese, cheese fondue, cheese baguette, fresh cheese on its own with some salami, well basically just cheese in everything - if you are a fan of savourish food.

2. Swiss Watches

When you're in Switzerland, you will basically see watches everywhere. On buildings, by the streets, and on buses. It accounts for the punctuality in everything, people are always 5 mins earlier or absolutely punctual. There's a saying in Switzerland, "Be Like a Swisswatch, Always On Time" unlike in Malaysia, there's always a saying "Chill La, Kita Ikut Malaysian Timing Ma".

My grandpa would be absolutely excited if he was able to visit this beautiful city.

3. Swiss Coffee

Thirdly, Switzerland is apparently famous for its coffee. Nestlé is a swiss company - which I didn't know. And Nespresso is like the best here - which I didn't know earlier either. In the state of extreme jetlag and exhaustion, we were in search of Swiss Coffee. I was so desperate to look for the shop called La Stanza. But we ended up savouring a piece of crepe.

I was so jetlagged after so we ended up heading back to the hotel to catch a few hours of sleep.

And so after I was recharged and completely ready to go out to continue to hunt for food. We went to this restaurant called Raclette Stube. Apparently you have to book in advance because it's usually very full after 7pm. They serve only Cheese Fondue and Raclette. I would recommend you to try the (Half and Half for the cheese fondue) because I'm not exactly a fan of cheese, but it's worth trying when youre in town.

We had a big pot for two, cheese fondue with wine and kirch. And mind you they charge 5 Swiss Franc for a bottle of still water. Trust me you will be needing loads of water, it was so salty, way beyond savourish for me to define.

Unglam father-daughter fondue sesh. We had a some quality time bitching about food prices, and food quality and how nice if my brother was here. If he wasn't too occupied in Jamie's Italian, Hong Kong.

We continue our march along Limmatquai from Mühlesteg to Rathaus Brücke.

IMG_6383.jpg

Ultimate chillin' by Rathaus, eavesdropping over our fellow not-so-acquainted friend's conversation. Sorry but just happen you were so excited with your stories and we were so overwhelmed with absorbing ourselves into the beautiful scenery, can't help but hearing all your little love troubles.

IMG_6387.jpg

Great chillin sensation all over from Rathausbrücke to Münsterbrücke.

IMG_6405.jpg

And we accidentally stumbled across this really chic music store with a collection of a series of classics displayed on the the store window. Ranging from ACDC, Foo Fighters and Madonna to Jason Moran and many others. I really liked their collection on display.

The city, the people and even the cars looks amazing. Not like we don't have these back home, it's just that they're so vintage you'd probably have to be in luck to see one of two of these roaming around the neighbourhood.

IMG_6435.jpg

Went down to Bürkliplatz to visit my duck and swan friends.

A view from the underpass

And a view from the top. Fun fact, the sun started to set around 9.15pm.

IMG_6461.jpg

I was trying very hard to mind my own business, but the city's filled with so much love, old love and young love. Even public display of affection on the very top of the bridge. We were contemplating whether if to take the longer route from the bottom or a detour from the overhead bridge. But we did it anyways.

IMG_6472.jpg

We finally surpassed the young couple and decided to show the city alittle bit of Malaysian style affection, posing

IMG_6473.jpg

Sorry we didn't mean to photobomb or intrude, but the grafitti is really pretty.

IMG_6485.jpg

Endless selfies, dad being so extremely excited about his adventures.

IMG_6481.jpg

So we stood on top of the bridge enjoying the view of the traffic in the evening.

IMG_6493.jpg

Soon after we ran into some people dancing in the park, I had no idea what dance they were doing, but it seems so cool. I was too shy to ask if I could join them.

IMG_6491.jpg

Some bulls at Fraumünster

IMG_6499.jpg

Apparently stores closes early around 6pm. But nightlife around Lake Zurich just about to get interesting, people chillin at bars, cars at it's minimum.

IMG_6506.jpg
IMG_6514.jpg

My dad's Bentley. Yeah I wish.

IMG_6523.jpg
IMG_6515.jpg

Estatic view at night overlooking the Grossmünster. The lighting has been so conducive for shooting, I kindof recommend this spot for wedding photo shooting in the near future.

IMG_6533.jpg

And so dad insisted that he wanted to change his facebook profile picture so I kindof made him a temporary one. Looks much legit right?

IMG_6552.jpg

As soon as we arrived at Rathaus, we were already trying to chase after the trams cause we were already knew that our biological battery was at all time low and we started counting down imaginary battery percentage, from 15% to 5%. We spent a really good leisure stroll around Zurich Lake, Zurich a financial city of Switzerland (They have around 120 Swiss Banks in this area). Don't be mistaken as Bern is the Capital of Switzerland, not Zurich or Geneva.

As we have taken a tremendous amout of photos on Lake Zurich but I couldn't be bothered posting more. Cause they're just too beautiful and I will save some space for me to rest my eyes and reminisce the and keep my imagination open the next time I revisit my blog.

So some simple traveling tips in Zurich.

To get to Lake Zurich, take the train to Banhofquai HB then interchange to Tram (No 4) to Central. You will find yourself at Limmatquai and you can immediately proceed to take a walk around the hidden trails of the city surrounding the Lake Zurich. You may also purchase a one day pass ticket for zone 110 for 24 hours for your convenience. Just remember to activate your ticket once at the blue ticketing machine around any station.

Note to self:

It's better travelling in pairs. I like what my cousin told me a night earlier. Enjoy freedom for now, just wait for the timing, find the person that sayang you gao gao and end up marrying that person. Much fairytale huh?

Sorry the post has been too long, I will continue to blog about my adventures to Jungfraujoch, Switzerland soon!

Cheerio
